What is the Vendee Globe ?

The Vendee Globe is a non-stop, non-assisted, single-handed round-the-world sailing race held every four years. It is raced on IMOCA monohulls, which are 18 meters long. Skippers set off from Les Sables d’Olonne in the Vendee region, covering some 45,000 kilometers around the globe, rounding the three legendary capes (Good Hope, Leeuwin and finally Cape Horn) before returning to Les Sables d’Olonne. The race has gained international renown, attracting skippers from all over the world. Above and beyond the competition, it’s above all an incredible human adventure that brings the people of Les Sables d’Olonne together with the rest of the world.

2024 marks the 10th edition

More than just a race, it’s a real event taking place in Les Sables d’Olonne. For the occasion, during the All Saints’ vacation, from October 19 to November 11, the town welcomes you to the village specially dedicated to the race: entertainment, festivities, sponsor meetings, visits to the pontoons to see the racing boats…. There’s plenty to enjoy and introduce you to the world of the sea!
